One of the most basic parts of your smile is the color of your teeth. It is probably one of the first things people notice about you. White teeth carry many positive connotations in our society, as people with white teeth are often thought of as more attractive, confident, and friendly. However, many factors can serve to affect enamel color over time. Factors such as coffee, wine, tobacco, diet, and even genetics can cause your teeth to look dull and discolored. Brushing and flossing may help to maintain the color and even prevent it from getting worse, but they do very little when it comes to actually improving it. One of the best ways to improve your teeth is with GLO Whitening in Phillipsburg, NJ with DeMartino Dental Group.

How Does GLO Teeth Whitening Work?

Animation of Glo teeth whitening process

The key to GLO Whitening comes from the combination of three elements:

  • The bleaching gel
  • The mouthpiece
  • The lights

The bleaching gel is a highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide solution and does not contain harmful ingredients such as alcohol or carbamide peroxide (which are in many other whitening gels). This is applied to your teeth and helps to break down years of stains. It does this by separating the bonds between the molecules that form the stains. This makes them less visible and allows the natural whiteness of your teeth to shine through.

The gel is held on by the mouthpiece. It ensures that you are receiving maximum contact from the gel and that it is securely held to your teeth. It also protects oxygen from escaping, as this is an additional important element in whitening your teeth.

“GLO” actually stands for “Guided Light Optics.” There are a series of lights in the mouthpiece which actually heat up the gel. The light speeds up the molecules in the gel and makes it act faster. The combination of the gel, the lights, and the mouthpiece all combine to make GLO Whitening so effective.

The Process

Whenever you come into the office, one of the team members at DeMartino Dental Group will clean your teeth and then brush on a thin layer of the gel to the front surfaces. They will then apply a protective layer to your gums and lips before putting on the mouthpiece and activating the light. After 32 minutes, the entire treatment is done. Afterwards, you will be provided with the gel and mouthpiece so you can continue to whiten at home. As little as 32 minutes a day for 5 days can give you long lasting results. The entire treatment can typically make your teeth 6-10 shades whiter. Our take-home kits are both more effective and longer lasting than any store-bought kit. Plus, the treatment doesn’t leave your teeth more sensitive like many other whitening procedures do.
