Why Dental Implants Could Be The Pinnacle of Tooth Replacement

Among every tooth replacement option, dental implants are often recommended by dentists as one of the best methods that there is. In fact, so many people talk about how incredible they are that it may lead you to wonder why there’s so much hype surrounding them.

As it turns out, there are quite a few reasons why dental implants have earned that level of distinction. If you’re curious, here are a few examples of reasons why that might be.

Dental Implants are Durable

Dentures and bridges are both capable of producing excellent results, and they’re both very durable— lasting maybe 10 to 15 years on average. However, dental implants blow them out of the water. Around 95% of dental implants last for 20 years, and many of them last as long as 30 when cared for well.

While other tooth replacement options work well, it’s no exaggeration to say that dental implants outlast them by a matter of 2 to 1.

Dental Implants Save the Jaw

When you lose a tooth, the area of the jaw that once held it will naturally start to shrink due to disuse. This atrophy can cause the skin around the mouth to sag, leading to premature aging and what some people describe as a natural frown.

Dentures and bridges don’t do anything to stop the atrophy of the jaw, but dental implants are different. They give the jaw a purpose again, stopping the loss of bone and supporting the skin around the mouth.

Dental Implants are Stronger than the Rest

Dentures are one of the most popular methods of tooth replacement, and they’re capable of restoring a lot of the chewing power that may have been lost. Studies have shown dentures restore around 30% of patients’ previous bite force.

However, dentures are limited by the fact that they get all of their support from the gums. Dental implants can rely on their connection to the jaw itself for stability. As a result, it’s estimated that they can restore up to 70% of a tooth’s original bite force, much greater than other tooth replacement options.

As you can see, dental implants have a lot going for them. Next time you hear someone sing their praises, maybe you’ll have a better idea of why that is.
