Throughout the years, patients have been asking us a number of questions. Here are just a few of those more commonly asked. If you have a question that is not listed, please feel free to call us to find out more. Perhaps we'll even add it to our list!

How do the doctors keep up-to-date on all of the current techniques and materials?

Dr. Gaeton DeMartino, Dr. Jeffrey DeMartino and Dr. Nélida DeMartino are all experts in the use of laser dentistry. In fact, our dental practice is the only dental practice in the Lehigh Valley that has a dental laser, which we believe is just one of the techniques setting us apart from the rest. As a team and as individuals, we make it our responsibility to be familiar with the latest techniques and materials available.

At what age should my children first see a dentist?

We usually recommend a child come visit us by the age of three years old, although we leave the decision to mom and dad because they know their children better than we do. Typically girls are ready a little earlier, by the age of 2 1/2. We often start out by asking parents to bring their children to their cleaning appointments. This way the child can watch, play with a toy and become more familiar with dentistry. We want to make their first experience pleasant and fun so they do not become afraid of the dentist.

Do you accept referrals?

We are happy to accept referrals from other dental offices as well as from recommendations by our patients to their family and friends. Your referrals are our best compliments!

Do you accept my insurance plan?

Our office accepts nearly all of the major insurance plans, except for HMOs or DMOs. Also, we are well versed in the latest coverage trends, and are more than happy to discuss the particulars of your plan with you prior to any treatments you may undergo.

My gums bleed after I brush. Is this something to be concerned about?

It is certainly not desirable to have bleeding gums following brushing. However, the condition may or may not require attention, depending on the source of the problem. Bleeding gums can be caused by any of the following: improper, rough, scrubbing instead of gentle, circular brushing motions; using a hard-bristled tooth brush instead of a soft one; plaque and/or tartar build-up below the gum line; or gum sensitivity due to gingivitis or periodontal disease. If this problem persists despite correct brushing and flossing methods or occurs every time you brush, contact our office to set up an evaluation appointment.

I do not like drills. Are there any other options?

We have obtained the very first dental laser in the Lehigh Valley allowing us to remove decay from a tooth--without using a drill or shot of anesthesia (Novocaine). Most procedures can be done without anesthesia, without needles or patient trauma. The new Waterlase Laser focuses its wavelength on the water it sprays out, instead of on the tooth, so the tooth doesn't heat up. This hydrokinetic process then activates the microscopic droplets of water, and it is the water that painlessly removes the tooth decay--all without the need for anesthesia.

  • No need for needles, yet no pain.
  • No high-pitched whine or vibration from the grinding of the drill. All you hear is a soft popping similar to the sound of popcorn popping.

How can I safely whiten my teeth?

Our doctors can help evaluate the potential for whitening your teeth based on the current color and the causes of any discoloration. We also offer a one-hour in-office whitening technique with the argon laser. With this method, you do not wear any trays at home and your teeth are dramatically whiter in just one visit.

What is Smile Design?

The highlight of smile design is watching your eyes light up the first time you look in the mirror at the change that has taken place. Our experience of watching our guests react to their new smile is almost overwhelming. We see an immediate change in their confidence and their interaction with others. The result is the creation of a beautiful new smile with a comfortable neuromuscular occlusion.

Typically changing the clinical smile is rewarding, but when clinical changes affect the psychological and emotional components---that is exhilarating! Most see dentistry simply as a repair and maintenance facility. But when patient lives are changed in such drastic measures, it confirms the reason many of us got involved in dentistry in the first place, which is to help others.

My child has had an accident and his/her tooth has been entirely knocked out. What do I do?

If there is no imminent medical emergency such as uncontrolled bleeding, unconsciousness or other bodily injury, please contact us immediately. Simply describe the situation over the phone and our office staff will help you determine the safest and most appropriate plan of action. In the meantime, please place the tooth in a glass of milk so the calcium will continue nourishing the tooth.

We are a family and we go out of our way to make sure all our patients, both young and old, feel very comfortable here by answering any questions they may have. We strive to give them the best treatment possible. That's why we have invested in the lasers and our training. We also provide comprehensive dentistry, all of the dentistry you need under one roof.
